Sept 27 Quiz

Today in class we took a quiz on the play we have been reading Fences. I felt confident about the constructed response answers as I was able to express my thoughts clearly (hopefully). I hope we continue reading throughout the year.

Notes

Today in class we worked on notes. the notes were about the writing process we will be using for our essays. We touched on clustering which is the grouping of different topics and sub topics. We put examples of sub topics of a job. This is helping me think about what to do for the essay before we start.

Fences reading finished

Today in class we finished reading the play Fences. This act revealed to us that 7 years had passed since Cory had been kicked out and Troy had finally faced death and lost. This makes me think that Troy felt sad and almost guilty when Cory was gone. In the story Troy kept referring to his daughters bedroom as Cory’s room. This makes me think about how people can truly love you but try their best to not show it.

Fences reading (30 minute class)

Today in class we almost finished the book fences. In the story we got to see see the relationship between Cory and Troy. The two have a major confrontation and Cory is kicked out the house. This made me think about how families can be torn apart.

Essay Review/Reading

Today in class we reviewed over the rubric for an upcoming essay. We also continued on our reading of Fences. The reading went into the problems the family is faces and being torn apart. Troy cheated on his wife and admitted to her. It makes me wonder why someone would ever do something like that when they clearly have a good life. Troy said he felt stuck on first base and finally got to steal second.

Fences reading

Today in class we continued our reading of fences. We got to see more about the characters personality and a lot of Troy’s background of why he acts the way he does. This got me thinking about how the things that happen early on in our lives can really affect how we act and who we are today.

Sub

Today in class we had a substitute teacher. We were assigned 19 questions about the play we have been reading (Fences).

Assessment

Today in class we had a reading assessment over a short story. The assessment was 6 questions long so I hope that I did well. The story was about someone’s love of books and how they became a writer. I think enjoying one’s hobbies and trying to find a way to get a job around them is an interesting idea.

Fences reading (continued again)

Today in class we continued reading the play Fences. While reading we got to see more of the relationships between characters and how they interact with one another. This made me think of the different ways I act with different people and how actions as well as behaviors can really change based on your environment.

Fences reading continued

Today we kept reading the play Fences. We went more in depth about each character and their attitude in the story. We then reflected on how different words can be used to mean the same thing in a positive or negative way.

Fences reading

Today we began the play called Fences. The play deals with the discrimination that African American people faced even after segregation had ended. The play also uses specific language in order to portray each character and their backgrounds. I think the way the play uses language is very interesting as it makes every character feel unique in a way.

Fences

Today we are starting on a book/play called Fences. We also discussed how fences affect people’s lives both physically and metaphorically. It made me think about the metaphorical fences we all put up wether it be emotionally, or even socially. These all effect our lives in the way of how people perceive us and the fact that someone may never see the real you.

Incident

Today we went over the poem incident and covered examples of offensive words that affect people. I think this lesson helped me think about how different people find different things to be offensive based on their background and culture. I never really thought about this before until now.

make up day

Today we made up the test from last week (I already finished mine the previous week) as well as having 15 new students added to our class. It was more of a catch up day.

Rock pile test

Today we took a test on the short story the rock pile as well as getting chromebooks. I feel as if I did well on the test and am not worried about it. The Jamboard felt like it really helped me with it. I also went up to the media center and finally got a Chromebook after many weeks without one.
