March 22

Today I was not able to go to class. Today I had a photography field trip which took us to a car junk yard with over six miles of cars in order to take hundreds of pictures. I had a very good time with the trip and was allowed to have lunch at a very good restaurant as well as other things.

March 20th

Today in class we began working on a project for the pervious text that we read and answered discussion questions for “A Devoted Son”. Our topic that my group got talks about isolation and how it can feel to be a part of a community. I think that this was a very good topic for this story because the conflict between Rakesh and Varma heavily isolated the two from t he rest of their traditional beliefs due to Rakesh’s more modern practices.

March 19th

Today in class we were given a text to read called devoted son. The story talks about the relationship between a father and son and the son becomes the best doctor in his community. The text talks about the conflicts between the son and father as he has more of a modern view on how he should take care of his father.

March 18th

Today in class we were given a text and a set of questions to answer about cultural connections to the text. Many of these questions identified the cultural expectations of our parents and family and how we are expected to act. I found a few of these questions somewhat difficult because I had either not experienced some of them or it was hard to make a connection.

March 15th

Today in class we were given a newsela assignment to complete. The topic of the assignment was about some of the benefits as well as disadvantages of a 3 year college degree. It was stated that it was a much more affordable option however many students do not feel as if the universities properly prepared them for transitioning into the workforce afterwards.

March 13th

Today in class we took an assessment on all of the poems that we have read so far. I believe that I did decently well for how many poems were covered and also somewhat forgot about ones that were read earlier. However some of the answered seemed somewhat the same as others so it felt a bit confusing.

March 12th

Today we read and discussed “The Chimney Sweeper” from songs of experience. This poem was similar to the previous one except it focused more on how the parents have wronged the children and don’t even realize it. It also talks about how the parents/family goes to church and prays yet they do it as a way to justify themselves.

March 11th

Today in class we read/discussed about “The Chimney sweeper” from songs of innocence. The poem talked about how children are treated and are forced into labor such as sweeping chimneys. I think that this poem shows the loss of innocence since the children are now getting real world experience at such an early age.

March 8th virtual

Today we had a virtual day and were given assignments to complete online. The assignment for this class was to finish some discussion questions for the poem infant joy and infant sorrow. Friday was an overall easy day and a good break.

March 7th

Today in class we worked on two poems called infant Joy and infant Sorrow. The two poems talked about the happiness that is experienced when child birth occurs while the other talked about the struggles of child birth. I think that these poems work very well together as they reflect multiple sides of the same thing.

March 5th

Today in class we worked on two different poem about The Lamb and a The Tiger. In both poems it talks about the innocence of the animals, especially the lamb. Both of these poems are used to describe the beauty of these animals and how they are both made by the same god.

March 4th

Today in class we started covering a new unit of poetry. The first one poem we really began to look over and discuss was “The poison tree”. In this poem it talks about how anger/hate can slowly grow overtime if nothing is done about it. I think this poem really gets it spot on with the message it is trying to send.

Feb 29

Today in class I began working on the Jamboard we started on Wednesday while I was absent. I think that my poem is not that good as I have almost never even written a poem before but I hope it works out fine

Feb 27 absent

 Not a fun day

Feb 26

Today in class we began to work on questions about our culture. There were a total of seven questions in which it asked about our different experiences with. I found a few of these questions awkward to answer because they are kind of personal.

Feb 25

Today in class we were given a paper to work on as a sort of mini project to create a poem talking about our culture with many different literary elements. I found it difficult to begin working on because I am absolutely terrible at poetry.
