The rock pile review questions

Today we went over questions for our quiz on the short story. These questions went into the theme of the short story as well as. This got me thinking about family dynamics and how certain people are treated better than others.

The rock pile

Today we finished the short story The rock pile. The story showed how favoritism can be in households such as people who have step parents and other situations. I can’t relate my self as I have never really experienced favoritism in my household.

August 28

Today we started on a short story called the rock pile and connected bits of it with our own childhood. The story got me to start to think about all the times I had with my brother before he left for college

Assessment

Today we took a quiz in class today. I made a 80 on the quiz which was pretty high considering the average was around a 75. I feel as if I mostly understood the poems that were used on the quiz and saw how much I fumbled on some easy answers. I definitely think I could’ve done better but it wasn’t bad in anyway.

Sub

Today in class we had a substitute teacher. We worked on a worksheet that answered questions about the theme and various other things of the poem we had read yesterday (Mother to son).

Mother to Son

Today we analyzed a poem called mother to son. The poem was about the hardships that the mother had faced in life climbing an old torn up staircase while others had a crystal stair. I think the poem can really show how little you know about someone’s life as everyone has issues in their staircase clear or not.

Refugee in America

Today we read over and discussed the poem Refugee in America. The poem talked about how he speaker felt like they did not have the same rights. When symbolizing what America stands for I see it as a place of opportunity and freedom in this day and age. You can make something out of nothing if you put your mind to it.

I, Too

Today we discussed a poem called “I Too” as well as answering the question on the sheet. The poem talked about how African Americans were discriminated against even though they too were Americans. I do not understand why people are still called “African Americans” and not just Americans. Many peoples families have lived in America for multiple generations now as well as other cultures.

Worksheet

Today in class we finished a worksheet about a poem that we had already somewhat covered from the previous day. I did not find it that interesting today but that is understandable as it was a work day.

Poem

Today we answered a question about our family’s cultural background as well and read over a poem by Langston Hughes. The question made me start to realize that I do not really know where my family originated from other than a few nuggets of information about them. This left me wondering what parts of the world my family line was really from.

Notes

Today in class we took notes around African American culture as well as their history with positive and negative values. The notes got me to start thinking about how various different cultures can all be both positively or negatively impacted by the stereotypes centered around them and how other cultures can view each other in these ways. In my opinion you should not have an entire view on someone based off a stereotype alone.
